October 1, 2020. - A new mobile recycling yard was opened in the Podsljeme City District today, the second recycling yard in this city district and the twentieth recycling yard in the city of Zagreb where citizens can hand over more than 30 different types of waste free of charge. It covers an area of 900 square meters, and the total value of the investment is about 800 thousand kuna.
As Ana Stojić Deban, President of the Management Board of Zagreb Holding, pointed out at the opening of the Podsljeme mobile recycling yard, currently are 11 fixed and 9 mobile recycling yards in function, thus the City of Zagreb fulfill the legal obligation that each city district has at least one recycling yard. But this number is not intended to stop.
An upward trend in the separate collection of recyclable waste
Thanks to investments in the improvement of infrastructure for separate waste collection and especially to citizens, we have an upward trend in separate collection of recyclable waste.
In 2019, compared to 2018, the quantities of separately collected plastics increased by 80%, paper by 48% and glass by 13%, while the amount of collected biowaste increased as much as 7 times.
This positive trend continued in the first half of 2020, and the quantities of separately collected paper increased by 41%, glass by 55%, plastic by 1.5 times and biowaste by as much as 5 times more compared to the same period last year.
At the same time, the mass of disposed mixed municipal waste decreased by 7.25% in 2019 compared to 2018, while in the first half of this year the amount of collected mixed municipal waste and delivered to the Prudinec / Jakuševec landfill decreased by as much as 19,958 tons or 19.5%.
