Containers for separate waste collection obtained through the environmental protection and energy efficiency fund

March 18, 2021 - As part of the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020. and Specific Objective 6i1 – Reducing the quantity of landfilled waste, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development launched on November 27, 2018 a limited negotiated procedure for the submission of project proposals for the project “Procurement of containers for separate collection of municipal waste”, namely: waste paper and cardboard, waste plastics, waste glass and biowaste.

The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund has applied on behalf of 407 local self-government units that expressed interest and met the requirements for this project.

The aim of the project is to establish waste separation on-site in order to reduce the amount of mixed municipal waste, reduce the share of biodegradable municipal waste generated in mixed municipal waste, increase the volume of recyclable waste and fulfill the obligation of the Republic of Croatia to ensure separate collection and recycling of waste paper and cardboard, waste plastics, waste glass and biowaste, and waste that falls into special waste categories.
 

 
The City of Zagreb, together with Zagreb Holding - subsidiary Čistoća, also applied for the Call for expressions of interest and was entitled to a total of 64 900 containers for separate collection of useful waste, as follows:
  1. Volume containers 80 L, 120 L and 240 L (bins)
  • 80 L:       10 000 for biowaste
  • 120 L:     Total 29 500 (20,000 for paper, 1500 for plastic and 8000 for biowaste)
  • 240 L:     Total 6500 (5000 for paper, 500 for plastic and 1000 for biowaste)
  1. Volume containers 1100 L (waste containers)
  • 1.100 L.: Total 15 000 (8000 for paper, 5 000 for plastic and 2000 for biowaste)
  1. Containers with a volume of 2500 and 3000 L (waste bells)
  • 2,5 m3:    Total 1500 (500 for paper and 1000 for plastic)
  • 3,0 m3:    Total 2400 (1000for paper and 1400 for plastic)
     
The total value of the containers for the City of Zagreb is around 70 million kuna. The co-financing rate of eligible costs from the Cohesion Fund is 85% of the amount, and the City of Zagreb co-finances the remaining 15%.

In February 2020 started the delivery of the received containers, and the delivery is still ongoing for certain containers.

In 2021, Zagreb Holding - subsidiary Čistoća started replacing old containers and installing new ones for separate waste collection obtained within this project.
